Transport & logistics.

Port and trade is our core business. Quadrant likes to take the lead in this for its clients, also when dealing with matters of legal principle. Our team therefore has more than 75 years of experience in this area.

Every day in our practice, all facets of transport law are discussed, ranging from road transport (CMR), maritime and inland shipping to air and rail transport, both with regard to the drafting of agreements and various kinds of damage cases and disputes, including security via attachment, right of pledge or retention.

The regular clientele of Quadrant is involved in the transit of all kinds of merchandise through Belgian ports and consults us for their supply chain projects and logistics services. Today, this involves more than just transport or forwarding, and we advise our clients on 3PL and 4PL agreements, value added services, transport integrators and many other legally complex aspects of their supply chain activities.

Quadrant has special expertise when it comes to intermediaries and assistants in national and international freight transport (forwarders, shipping agents, goods handlers, terminal operators and customs representatives). In this matter, Quadrant is the premier reference in Belgium and has extensive legal expertise, partly through its academic publications. Forwarders and customs representatives therefore rely on the firm for advice, dealing with their disputes with clients and/or customs, but also for securing their claims, often through pledge settlement.

Goods storage and handling and terminal operator activities are of course also discussed. These activities are subject to their specific legal requirements and regulations, whereby Quadrant provides assistance with drafting service level agreements, obtaining and maintaining permits, drafting contracts and their insurance policies, handling claims and with regard to their rights of pledge and retention.

Because of its extensive expertise in 'Port and trade' files, Quadrant is consulted by various liability insurers in transport and logistics disputes. Should it be necessary to call on foreign expertise in the international context of a case, Quadrant has an extensive network of specialized colleagues to assist you.
