Patrick Rubens

Patrick Rubens obtained his law degree at the KU Leuven in 1991.

During his internship at the Antwerp Bar, he obtained both a candidate degree in Philosophy, a special licence in Maritime Sciences at the University of Antwerp and a special licence in the specialised study of Commercial law.  

Patrick founded Marcon & Rubens in 1996 together with Peter Marcon.

Patrick is former secretary of UNIVERSHA, the maritime association University and Port as well as of the maritime association STUDIEKRING ZEEVERZEKERING.

He is a member of both these associations as well as the Belgian Maritime Law Association (BVZ).

From 2001 to 2013, Patrick taught English maritime law at the Faculty of Law in Lille in the Master after Master course "Droit de la mer et activités maritimes".

He was also a lecturer of the courses "Claims, insurance and dispute settlement" and "Master class Breakbulk, Module 2, Insurance & risk management", organised by PORTILOG.

Furthermore, Patrick is the author of several books and articles on transport law and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Vervoer & Recht, Uitgeverij Parijs.

He obtained a continuing education certificate in Customs & Excise from the Faculty of Law at the University of Antwerp in 2019.

Currently, Patrick is following a Master after Master in Tax Law with specialty in Customs & Excise at the University of Antwerp.

In 2023, he founded QUADRANT LEGAL together with Pierre Bogaerts and Jan Everaerts.

Patrick speaks and writes in Dutch, French and English.
